About Us

Reel Therapy Charter is a nonprofit (501C3) fishing charter founded in 2021 by Dennis Long.  The charter’s mission is to show military veteran's gratitude by providing free offshore fishing excursions from Wilmington, NC.  As a former Marine and combat veteran, Dennis understands the challenges veterans face between deployments or when integrating back into civilian life.  His experiences have led him to a calling to serve other veterans the best way he knows how, by sharing the pastime he loves.  The goal of each trip is to offer a safe, comfortable environment where all members of the fishing party have military backgrounds.  This setting is designed to provide a therapeutic experience for all involved.

Reel Therapy started chartering trips in Spring 2022.  The trips typically last four hours and the Veterans can choose to troll (King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, False Albacore, Bonito) or bottom fish (Sharks, Cobia, Red Drum, Trout, Flounder).

Dennis Long is a licensed US Coast Guard Captain.  In addition to Reel Therapy, Dennis is active in the Wilmington NC community by supporting other nonprofits such as the Veterans Memorial Reef (takes veterans family members to watch loved ones to be laid to rest at sea), Fallen Outdoors, and A Childs Wish foundation (takes terminally ill children and their families fishing).
